Discovering Old Welsh Houses
Discovering Old Welsh Houses is a voluntary organisation which studies and celebrates the traditional houses of North Wales built between the 1400s and the mid 1700s and the lives of the people who lived in them.
Although existing in some form since 2009, we are celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the renaming of the charity with a new website and logo for 2026!
Current members should expect to receive an email and password to our new Members Area which will go live on Monday 27th July.
We always welcome new members, whatever your level of interest or knowledge.

Research
We arrange visits, talks and workshops for our members to research the history of Welsh historic houses.
We support volunteers to design and develop projects to identify pre 1700 houses for further research.
We also seek grants for dating and building recording and publish our research on our website with open access to all.
Reports
Over the last 25 years we have published over 140 reports on tree ring dating, 90 building recordings and house histories for 180 houses. We have also produced 15 booklets on local histories.
By adopting a parish-by-parish approach, using local knowledge, internet searches and research in local Archives, we hope to identify and then commission reports for most of the houses built before about 1750 (including ruins) that still survive in North Wales.
